Non-Computer-Based Assessment Centres
Assessment is conducted on paper and through practical demonstration. The requirements are those of institute affiliation, without the computer-lab section.

How Assessment Is Conducted
Three things happen at your centre on assessment day.
- 1
Written paper
Candidates sit a written examination on paper, supervised at your premises. The Board supplies the papers and collects them afterwards.
- 2
Practical demonstration
The candidate performs the trade in front of an assessor — the part of the assessment a written paper cannot cover. Your workshop or practical area is where this happens.
- 3
Board invigilation
A Board team attends to invigilate and to conduct the practical assessment. Your centre provides the space, the equipment and the access they need.
What Your Centre Must Have
Declared at registration and checked on the verification visit.
- 1
Examination hall or room
A room that can seat candidates separately enough for a supervised written paper. Declare how many candidates you can seat in one sitting.
- 2
Workshop or practical area
The space where the practical demonstration takes place, with the tools and equipment of the trades you are registering for.
- 3
Secure storage
A lockable place to hold examination papers and completed answer scripts between their arrival and their return to the Board.
- 4
Candidate facilities
Separate washrooms, clean drinking water, first aid and fire safety — the same provisions required of any affiliated institute.
There is no published minimum number of candidates for a non-computer-based centre. Declare the capacity you can genuinely seat in one sitting — the Board judges suitability on the visit, against the trades you are registering for.
Two Photographs
Both are compulsory. They let the Board check your declaration at the desk, before anyone travels.
- 1
The examination room
One photograph showing the room in full with its seating in place, so the declared capacity can be checked at the desk.
- 2
The practical area
One photograph of the workshop or practical space showing the equipment a candidate would use during the demonstration.
